12 Things I’m Doing To Combat The Winter Blues (It’s Working)
I’m not a grinch — I do enjoy many things about Christmastime (mostly for the romantic vibes all the lights give off)— but it’s also stressful as hell. Growing up, a lot of really messed up shit happened at this time of year in our household — drunken car accidents, explosive family fights, tons of money drama between my parents, more alcohol and drug use — all the things.
I’m in my 30’s now and I’ve forgiven but haven’t forgotten — and those memories still cause a lot of unwanted emotions to surface at this time of year. Fortunately, I’ve been through this enough times that I’ve found ways to prepare.
Also, times have changed, and being in your 30’s with a boyfriend(or being single) in the time of social media — not a husband or fiance, and not having any kids — brings up a whole other category of comparison.
Winter is also the most difficult time for me, and I’m sure many of us especially with the pandemic still in effect. I’m a Leo, summer baby — these long, dark, cold days? Not my jam — but I have to make the best of it.
So, here are 11 tips from the things I’m doing right now to keep my mind and body healthy — (really though, here’s the shit I’m doing to prevent a total mental breakdown during this holiday pandemic world — so far, so good).
