5 things to do when you’re alone and craving alcohol

Lately, I’ve been craving booze more often than usual. Maybe it’s summer coming, maybe it’s because life has been more stressful — it’s likely all of the above. Regardless, the cravings made me think about the things I do to get a hit of dopamine instead of picking up the bottle.

First off —What doesn’t work. If someone suggests making a nonalcoholic drink will help curve craving one more time… knock it off! I just don't see how that's helpful, ever! A lemon water fucking spritzer does not distract me, it just makes it worse.

The only drink I’ve found to stop the craving is Kombucha, and there are trace amounts of alcohol in that so…. go figure.

Here’s what I do that actually works (for me) when I’m alone and craving drink:

  1. Go for a walk while doing something

Simply going for a walk doesn’t help because it’s boring as shit and I just end up thinking more about booze. However, if I create a destination (I’m goal oriented) and listen to a great podcast or call a friend — then it doesn't take long for me to get distracted. It just has to be something I actually, truly enjoy. Sometimes I’m in the mood for a heath podcast, sometimes I just want to listen to some silly banter — but it beats just sitting in front of the TV or computer. When I do that, I’m just…
