How to successfully set & achieve goals when you’re self employed
Here’s my method for the last 10 years that has worked for me and the people I’ve shared/coached with their goals
Ever since I can remember, I have been writing out my goals. Even as a kid, I would set goals to accomplish certain things, achieve them — then set another goal.
The first goal I can remember setting was when I was around 8 years old, and I wanted to memorize all the different types of cats— because I loved cats so much and because I found an encyclopedia of cats. I was successful with that goal and felt a huge sense of pride as I knew the difference between a Maine Coone and a Norweigan Forest Cat (even though this information did not really come in handy other than annoying my parents)— it set me off on a goal setting obsession. I graduated to bigger goals as I got older — Like saving enough money by raking the neighbours lawns to buy a certain amount of candy.
Oh, the simple days.
I’m not completely sure what sparked my interest in achieving goals, but I think it had something to do with the fact that both of my parents were addicts and I needed to be in control of something. I also felt better when I had things to look forward to — and setting goals, always gave me something to work toward, accomplish and feel satisfied with.
Goals gave me a sense of purpose.
