I tracked how much alcohol it took to negatively influence my sleep
A year ago I bought an Oura ring, I’ve been monitoring how things affect my sleep quality — here are my findings from alcohol
It’s no surprise that alcohol negatively affects sleep — I’m sure you’ve heard all about it. For years, when I would drink wine, I knew I would have a restless and sweaty night — and now I finally was able to track with a sleeping device, exactly what happens and how much alcohol it takes to have an effect.
I didn’t need an Oura ring to tell me that, but it did provide more insight that solidified this and helped me discover precisely how much and when it affected me most. I’m going to keep this short and to the point because it’s really more simple than I thought.
Even if I had just one alcoholic beverage (one glass of champagne, one ounce of scotch, or a 6oz glass of wine) my sleep was negatively affected — and more than I thought.
My sleep score when I’m not drinking is usually in the high 80s to the 90s (for those of you who don’t know Oura, the max is 100 — so the higher the better). Those scores are considered to be in the most “Optimal” range.
