The Cause of Amenorrhea That Nobody is Talking About.

Many women struggle with menstrual issues, whether it’s excessive cramping, unusual bleeding, crazy PMS, headaches, depression, anxiety or abnormal cycle timing — the list goes on. The one thing that I noticed is less talked about, is all the women who are no longer getting their periods, or getting them rarely. This is called Amenorrhea — the absence of a menstrual bleed.

It can be hard to diagnose what the root cause of it is, and some women will just miss one or two periods due to times of stress, so it’s best to first assess how long you’ve been without a period in your life. Many doctors will prescribe hormones to regulate your period, but I encourage you to question that as your body is clearly not producing them normally for a reason.

I was without my period for over 3 years after I was very ill with a bad stomach illness called Clostridium Difficile. It caused me to drop weight from my already thin frame, to a very dangerous number — so that was definitely a factor. I was on birth control for 9 years and went off of it when I had C. Difficile the second time, because I didn’t want any drugs in my body anymore. That was also a contributing factor, as it can take time after going off the pill to regulate again.

I started to heavily research why this was happening to me in my early 20’s and spent a ton of time and energy deciding that it was best for me to change my diet to improve my gut health. An infectious disease doctor told me that there were C. Difficile…
