The Off-Grid Fantasy Life

In one of my recent stories, I wrote about finding my ideal life. Ever since then, I have been not only fantasizing about what that life would be like — but also looking at how I can get there. So, I’ve decided to write it out as I go through the process.

I realized that I was feeling discouraged because moving to a hot climate isn’t really all that realistic for me right now. I’m simply not comfortable with leaving my homeland during this pandemic. There are just too many question marks — Would I be able to get proper healthcare if I needed it? Would I heighten my chances of illness in a new place? Would I upset the locals? How can I get my dog there safely? Will he even be allowed?

It just didn’t sit right with me on too many levels. You could say I’m succumbing to my fears, however, I prefer to think of it as weighing my options and choosing the best one in this present moment. It doesn’t mean that I won’t be living in a hot climate in a couple of years when all this craziness finally, hopefully, blows over. As long as I’m alive, that's still an option….if I still want it to be.

Luckily, I already live in a really beautiful place with easy accessibility to almost all of my daydreams — Vancouver, British Columbia. We are fortunate here to have the ocean, islands, mountains, lakes, farmland — all the options, within driving distance.

The biggest pitfall for me living here has been the winters (I have always been known to despise the cold) however, I’ve had a huge mental shift lately —…
